Together with the emphasis on the technical skills acquisition, higher education institutions have been making an effort on developing and updating undergraduate transferable competences in order to diminish the gap between academic training and working world entrance. In other words, to recognize market needs, teachers and students representations about human resources requirements, and combine them to boost employability in business professions, must be a priority in today’s knowledge based economy. Taking into account the new teaching realities brought by Bologna agreement, as well as the exertion universities have been done in order to tune in enterprises and curricula, this activity intended to accede the way recruiters, alumni and college teachers from Catholic University [CU; Porto Regional Center (PRC), Economics and Management Faculty (MEF)] positioned themselves relatively to some recruitment and selection criteria for management and economics professions. Using a reflection activity based upon Régnier’s Abacus, participants were asked to positioned individually as experts (in their roles as recruiters, teachers or former CU alumni) in identifying market value skills, and afterwards to build a group debated conclusion to present to a larger audience. Results pointed out only one total consensual factor, that is, flexibility and adjustment skills as the most important factors when recruiting, followed by entrepreneur capabilities and valorization of work experiences in the candidates curricula. Discrepancies were found by group of experts when college of origin was the discussion subject, although there was consensus about the hierarchical place order in the three groups.Market valued skills, Management and Economics College Teachers and Graduates, Employers, Régnier’s Abacus based activity

The goal of this dissertation is to evaluate costumer satisfaction regarding the service provided in community pharmacies in the Braga district. Satisfaction results of a company’s marketing and, since a pharmacy is a company, this is an important field to be studied. To perform this dissertation, we conducted a survey. We based our work in studies that had already been performed, pertaining to the satisfaction of clients in community pharmacies, for the development of the questionnaire in order to use previously validated scales. This survey was done online, by email and social networks, obtaining a total of 102 responses. The obtained data was analyzed by the IBM SPSS Statistics 23 system. The obtained results demonstrate that the largest amount of costumers are female, aged between 26 and 50 years old, living in rural areas and possessing as educational qualifications a graduate degree. In general, the results demonstrate that satisfaction is achieved when given quality and literacy parameters are reached. The correlation between variables such as quality, waiting time, service provided, counseling, literacy and loyalty were also evaluated. The variables waiting time, service provided, counseling, available services and literacy affect customer satisfaction pertaining to the service provided, the same way that there is a correlation, although a weak one, between satisfaction and loyalty. Hence it can be concluded that the satisfaction of clients regarding the service provided in community pharmacies of Braga district is satiated and that (that) it is related to several variables

Estimation of biomass composition from genomic and transcriptomic information

Given the great potential impact of the growing number of complete genome-scale metabolic network reconstructions of microorganisms, bioinformatics tools are needed to simplify and accelerate the course of knowledge in this field. One essential component of a genome-scale metabolic model is its biomass equation, whose maximization is one of the most common objective functions used in Flux Balance Analysis formulations. Some components of biomass, such as amino acids and nucleotides, can be estimated from genome information, providing reliable data without the need of performing lab experiments. In this work a java tool is proposed that estimates microbial biomass composition in amino acids and nucleotides, from genome and transcriptomic information, using as input files sequences in FASTA format and files with transcriptomic data in the csv format. This application allows to obtain the results rapidly and is also a user-friendly tool for users with any or little background in informatics (http://darwin.di.uminho.pt/biomass/). The results obtained using this tool are fairly close to experimental data, showing that the estimation of amino acid and nucleotide compositions from genome information and from transcriptomic data is a good alternative when no experimental data is available. Companies need to communicate with their audiences and they need to do it effectively. The integrated marketing communication, through the "coordination and integration of all marketing communication tools", allows you to maximize "the impact on consumers and other end users at a minimal cost" (Clow and Baack, 2011, p .8). In this project, we developed an integrated marketing communication plan for a business in the tertiary sector, specifically, a butcher. The first part of the project includes a brief literature review that includes the definition of the concept, the definition of the IMC plan and some of the existing models. The plan adopts Henley's (2001) Conceptual Model, which, among all the examined models, appeared to be the most suitable and easy to use. The objectives of this plan are: (1) to increase the brand awareness in 2015 in order to contribute to a growth in sales, estimated at around 20%, (2) to attract new customers in 2015 (leading to an estimated 15% increase in the total number of customers), (3) to implement a rebranding process, by changing the name and creating a different brand with a new graphic image, in order to communicate your values, mission and positioning

Identification of robust strain designs via tandem pFBA/LMOMA phenotype prediction

    Get PDF
The past two decades have witnessed great advances in the computational modeling and systems biology fields. Soon after the first models of metabolism were developed, methods for phenotype prediction were put forward, as well as strain optimization methods, within the field of Metabolic Engineering. Evolutionary computation has been on the front line, with the proposal of bilevel metaheuristics, where EC works over phenotype simulation, selecting the most promising solutions for bioengineering tasks. Recently, Schuetz and co-workers proposed that the metabolism of bacteria operates close to the Pareto-optimal surface of a three-dimensional space defined by competing objectives. Albeit multi-objective strain optimization approaches focused on bioengineering objectives have been proposed, none tackles the multiobjective nature of the cellular objectives. In this work, we propose multi-objective evolutionary algorithms for strain optimization, where objective functions are defined based on distinct phenotype prediction methods, showing that those can lead to more robust designs, allowing to find solutions in more complex scenarios.(undefined)info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Rodent models: what is their importance for cancer study?

    Get PDF
Abstract: Cancer is one of the most frequent diseases worldwide, accounting for approximately 10 million deaths in 2020. The most common cancers in 2020 were: breast, lung, colon and rectum, prostate, skin, and stomach. Cancer arises from the conversion of normal cells into initiated cells as a result of the interaction between intrinsic (genetic) and extrinsic factors, namely physical agents (ultraviolet radiation), chemical agents (asbestos, components of tobacco smoke, arsenic) and biological agents (Helicobater pylori, Schistosoma haematobium, hepatitis virus). Animal models are very useful to understand and follow several diseases, including cancer. In this way, in vivo studies are essential to improve and discover new strategies to prevent and treat cancer more effectively. This presentation intends to describe the rodent models available for cancer study, highlighting their advantages and disadvantages, as well as their potential in the evaluation of several drugs and natural compounds for cancer treatment

The main objective of this project is to develop and explore the potential of introducing rural tourism to the Herdade das Laranjeiras, trying to elevate the sense individuals have regarding rural tourism and take away the old image they associate with it. Being in the heart of Algarve, Almancil has already gained a great reputation for foreign visitors and of course domestic visitors as well. This business plan hopes to explain the importance of rural tourism and the benefits it can bring to the local economy and its visitors, trying to set the idea that the Algarve is more than just beach resorts. This enterprise hopes to develop new touristic opportunities for this region, not only through accommodation but also by giving away new concepts and activities related to local culture. To gain knowledge of the surrounding market, many studies were conducted throughout the development of this business plan along with the data collection and extensive research for the literature review. A market analysis, competitive analysis, strategy analysis, the creation of a marketing mix, and a survey, as well as an economic and financial study, were made. On the final steps of this business plan, with a general analysis of all studies made plus the results of the economic and financial assessment, it is safe to say that the implementation of rural tourism on Herdede das Laranjeiras is viable and has the potential to be a successful enterprise, in the future.O principal objetivo deste projeto de trabalho é desenvolver e explorar a viabilidade de introduzir o conceito de turismo rural à Herdade das Laranjeiras, tentando sempre incutir aos seus visitantes que o turismo rural é mais do que aquilo que muitos têm como estereotipo deste tipo de turismo.
